Here  is the complete assembled factory, featuring a 0.00000250 Ton LEGO Injection Mold Press.  It has a 4-cavity mold to produce high-impact polystyrene (HIPS) 4 mm photographic film spools.  For a sense of scale, look at the Mold Setup Operator.  These are big machines!

To see a video of its operation (91k) click here.

It works best with QuickTime 5.  To download a free copy of QuickTime*, click here.

This is the Press shown alone, without the mold.  On the left is the motor that drives the screw.  In the center is the feed hopper.  On the right is the nozzle and barrel heat controller. The mold is moved back and forth by the 'ram', underneath.  Traditionally it is hydraulic.  Mine is pneumatic (driven by compressed air).

The screw at the bottom of the hopper is driven through a gear train and a worm/wheel assembly.  Final speed is about 17 rpm.
This is the nozzle and the barrel heater assemblies.

Here is the mold assembly.  On the left is the wiring connection to the manifold heater.  On the right is the mold position switch.  The tie-bars are not in traditional format... Oh well!
