This is a model of a semi-automatic spooler, for photographic microfilm. A spooler is an industrial machine used to take film or ribbon or any monofilament product from a stock-roll and wind it onto customer-rolls. Semi-automatic means that an operator runs it: mounts a new stock roll when required, loads empty spools and removes full customer rolls. However, the winding of the customer-roll, unwinding of the stock-roll, tension and length control are all automatic. Since this is just a model, our stock-rolls are spools of thread and customer-rolls will be sewing-machine bobbins. Read on...!
